Week 9 reflection

I definitely met my goal, I got all of the wolf shaded, in fact I think I might be done. :)

I started shading on the wolf a little bit and it's looking good so far hopefully i can get it done next week.

Week 7 reflection

I kinda completed my goal. I worked on the wolf and decided that i'm going to go for a more cartoonish look rather than realism.

Today I'm going to work on the wolfs hair some more and hopefully make some progress. And I'm behind on my breakdown because of the wolf.

Week 6 Reflection

So I kinda accompished my goal. I had to restart on the wolf though because I had too many color patches so now its pretty much all grey and I downloaded new brushes which will hopefully help the hair look better.

I'm going to work on the wolf and try to make it look more realistic and maybe work on the shading.

Week 5 reflection

Well I almost go my goal acomplished. I got the background done and worked a little on the wolf but got bored and darkened the shadow on the dress instead.

I'm going to work on getting the trees in the background done and do some more shading on the wolf.

Week 4 Goal

Finish the shading on the cloak and the grass. Then either do more with the wolf or work on the background.

I got a lot done on the cloak and I did a lot of little details. I started working on the back ground but it wasn't really going all that well so I'll work on that next week.

Week 3 goal

This week I'm going to work on the wolf some more and start on the trees in the background.

I achieved my goal I got alot done on the wolf and started working on the background.

By Friday i plan on having more shading on the cloak and some of the wolf's face done and to be started on the background.

End Week 1 Reflection

Well I didn't really meet me goal. I only got the hair and most of her dress done, I also got her lips done but her face isn't shaded. However I did start a little bit on the wolf's hair so thats good. Next week I think I'm going to work on making her cloak look real.

Proposal

By April 6^th. 2012 I plan on having at least one drawing completely done and painted. I’m going to do a drawing of Little Red Riding Hood on multiple pieces of paper and then scan them onto the computer where I will make kind of a collage with them to show the full picture. When I put all of these pieces together I’m also going to make them slightly transparent. In the end the picture will be Little Red Riding Hood standing with her back against the wolf which if all goes well he will look big and menacing. I’m going to try to make these drawings as realistic as possible with a few cartoonish aspects that I’ll take from some of my inspiration.

Artist Analysis

The artist of this picture is Max Palenko and he didn’t say what the title was. This piece looks like stone totem poles that are coming from the center of the earth and stretch all the way up to the surface to form a kind of “tunnel back to the center.” These “totem poles” also look like cliffs and there is fog pouring over the edges of them. There are also some creepy faces in each column.

The artist used line and value to create depth. He used textures to make the columns look like rocks and the fog look like, well, fog. He also used sense of scale and color to create an even more established sense of depth. All of these elements helped to create a kind of dark mood one of sadness, anger and terror. The faces that he “carved” into the stone add to that by being faces of anguish.

I’m not really sure what the artist’s intensions behind his work were. He might have been meaning for it to represent the anguished souls of the dead or it could be a gateway to Hell or something like that though I’m really not entirely sure.

I like this piece because at first glance it could be just some oddly shaped cliffs but then you look closer and you can start to see shapes and faces and it starts to make your mind wonder what the meaning of it really is. So I think this piece really reflects what I’m trying to do because upon first glance I want people to see the fairy tale they all grew up with but then when they look closer I want them to see how I’ve kind of twisted the story.

These were both done by Max Palenko and I like them because they're weird and kind of put a twist on reality like I want to do with fairy tales.

The picture with the birds was done by Nate Hallin and I just liked the way he played with the meaning of birds being in a cage.

The picture with the sad little man was done by Rudy-Jan Faber and I just thought it was cool.

I think I want to redo a picture from a classic fairy tale. I'm going to draw it and then color it on photoshop.
